Totogatic Park campground

Well, we finally got to take our first trip of the season, and it was spectacular. We had so much fun camping with a large group of friends and family. This trip was to Totogatic park campground in Minong, WI. It is a county park in Washburn County with 105 camper sites and 2 tent-only sites. Our site was in the new addition added in 2021 so it had full hook-ups. Which was very convenient, and we were able to just shower in the camper since the showers are pay to use. The shower house was very clean and well-maintained.

Unfortunately, in the older section of the campground by the beach the shower house and fish cleaning station were shut down as they need to dig a new well. This wasn’t really an issue for us, and when at the beach they did have port-a-pottys on site.

When we arrived on Thursday afternoon the air temp was 96° and when we turned on the AC it was 91° inside the camper. The setup was quick and easy but boy was it sweaty. As soon as we had camp all prepped we decided to check out the beach. Totogatic Park is on the Minong flowage and it has a wonderful sandy bottom beach area. The kids and adults we all in heaven when we got in the water. We played at the beach for around an hour then it was time to head back to cook dinner.

Dinner Thursday night was smash burgers on the Blackstone and they did not disappoint. Super simple with great flavor, we eat them all the time even when we are not camping. After dinner, we joined the rest of our group and sat around the fire. the kids all made smores or just roasted marshmallows. It was such a peaceful and quiet campground even though it was pretty full even during the week. We were pretty wiped out from setting up that we headed off to bed pretty early.

Saturday morning we cooked pancakes on the Blackstone while the kids rode their bikes around the loop. After breakfast the temp and humidity were climbing fast so we headed back to the beach. We inflated tubes and the kids played for a couple of hours in the water. After lunch the little ones had naps and the adults hung out at the campers just relaxing.

Then back to the beach for a little while before dinner. Friday night we made sausage and pierogies on the Blackstone (one of the kid’s favorites). That evening the weather did take a turn and it rained for a while (much needed). We hung out in the camper and played some board games, so our night was not a complete wash.

Saturday was pretty much a repeat of Friday including the rain. We cut our Sunday short even though check-out is not until 3pm. It rained most of the morning and only cleared off for a little while we packed up. We had so much fun at Totogatic Park and we plan on visiting here again in the future. It was a nice change of pace from the big resort campgrounds. We do enjoy those as well, but it was relaxing not feeling like we were on a schedule to do all of the activities.
